The Creativ Brief: Onboarding Employees and Clients

We’re in the midst of growth.

Growth means onboarding, the process of integrating new employees and clients into your organization.

We’ve gotten better at onboarding over our two+ year existence, developing our own process to onboard new employees and clients as we scaled. Here’s the best practices we’ve learned:

Research for understanding

When onboarding a new client, learn everything you can about them. Supply your employees as much material as possible, so they can learn too. The value a new team member brings depends on their ability to add value to the organization. The value you can bring a client requires you knowing their needs. You can’t add value to something you don’t understand.

Establish goals and objectives

What does success look like to this new team member? Clearly demarcate what is the responsibilities held and what success means in the context of those responsibilities. For both clients and employees, success is whatever you agree it is.

Check in regularly

It’s easy to ignore this one. Business is the act of being busy. We’ve begun to add processes like bi-annual reviews for both our internal employees and clients to discuss what’s working and what needs improvement. Open and honest communication lies at the heart of every great working relationship.

Thanks to all the employees and clients that have hopped on board with us.

3 Stories Dominating Media and Tech Headlines

SAG-AFTRA and major studios will resume negotiations after the Hollywood Actor’s strike has lasted 100 days. The talks will be occurring at SAG-AFTRA plaza in LA and involve several studio executives, which marks the first discussion since negotiations broke down on October 11.

Why it matters: SAG-AFTRA stated it’s seeking approximately 57 cents per subscriber per year and that studios need to share more of the financial success of shows with actors. Streaming royalties have never existed, so any deal would set precedent for streaming royalties to come.

FaZe Clan has been acquired by GameSquare who sees an opportunity in its depressed share price and large fanbase.

Ned Sherman, an M&A expert for SkyBound Entertainment, stated that rather than relying on brand partnership money, FaZe should look to profit from digital products and experiences with recurring subscription revenue.

Why it matters: We are entering a period of M&A consolidation in gaming. Several firms with large pockets such as Microsoft, Apple, Netflix, and others are buying up studios, tech, and media firms related to gaming.

Amazon unboxes a suite of new media tools with the intention of increasing US ad revenue. Here are the actions Amazon is taking to offer more comprehensive advertising solutions:

  1. DSP update that includes new Amazon ads API’s

  2. Enhancements to Amazon Marketing Cloud which enables advertisers to gain holistic audience insights and optimize campaigns

  3. Introduced Amazon Publisher Cloud to complement its DSP, promising improved privacy assurances and reduced audience reach requirements

Why it matters: Amazon is developing a more comprehensive interface for advertisers to spend efficiently, optimize campaigns, and successfully track audience reach. Amazon ads is one of the fastest growing sources of revenue for the digital giant.
